We held a 24-hour Singathon in support of Sue Ryder cancer care, and were thrilled that our president, the world-renowned soprano Marilyn Hill Smith, opened the event after a countdown by the Rt Hon Alex Chalk. Marilyn's exceptional performance was unforgettable. Formerly a leading soprano with the English National Opera Company, Marilyn has graced stages from Covent Garden to international venues with enchanting Viennese melodies. Her career spans a wide range, from operatic classics to Gilbert and Sullivan favourites. Known affectionately as "Britain's Queen of Operetta," Marilyn's repertoire includes pieces by Mozart and Ivor Novello alike.
Alongside Marilyn, we were privileged to have performances from a wide variety of individuals and groups, including The People's Show Choir, Montpellier Brass Ensemble and I Sing Choir.
The event was a huge success and we would like to thank everyone that took part, whether organising, performing, providing refreshments or ensuring everything ran smoothly behind the scenes. The collaborative effort raised an impressive sum in excess of £3,000 for Sue Ryder.
